At Brightwood Stables, we offer private lessons on our trusted school horses, training with award-winning Saddlebreds, and a welcoming barn family that supports riders of all ages. Whether you’re just starting out or preparing for the show ring, there’s a place for you here.

Brightwood Stables specializes in private riding lessons and training American Saddlebred horses, with a strong focus on preparing riders for the show ring. Our lesson program is designed to guide students through academy-level competition and help them progress into larger horse shows.

We offer individualized instruction in a supportive environment, helping each rider build confidence, skill, and show-ring readiness. While we do offer horse camps and additional instruction opportunities, when available, we do not offer regular, group lessons.

There’s something for everyone at Brightwood Stables!

Brightwood Stables offers lessons on approximately 10 school horses. We also have several show horses available for lease or purchase. The rest of our residents are horses in training who are winning at horse shows locally or nationally, horses in retirement from the show ring, or some horses who are boarding. Brightwood Stables is proud to be home to trainer Leigh Erickson, who has been training horses and riders at our location—formerly Bob Jensen Stables—for over 40 years. Leigh brings deep expertise in Saddleseat, Western, and Hunt Seat disciplines, and is known for her ability to connect with riders of all ages, from 6 to 96! Her dedication to the sport and her students was recently recognized with the 2024 Tri-State Horsemen’s Association Lifetime Achievement Award, a testament to her lasting impact on the equestrian community.

Brightwood Stables’ new owners Drs. Abby and Josh Albright love all animals. They have a daughter who has been riding at this location for several years. Abby has a lifelong love for American Saddlebred horses, as a rider and horse owner while growing up in Illinois. They are proud to continue the strong tradition started by Bob Jensen Stables and spend nearly all their free time at the barn!
